St. Louis Blues 2021 Wine Pairing, Vicente Faria Gloria Reserva 2018
Wine notes
The Douro in Portugal is one of the most underrated wine regions in the world. Geopolitics is the main culprit this snub. In 1703, in the midst of the War of Spanish Succession, the Methuen Treaty was signed by England and Portugal opening up the movement of wine and textiles. This treaty was the foundation of British/Portuguese trade and the effects of it still exist today in both the wine and textile industries.
Vicente Faria Gloria Reserva 2018 is a quintessential representation for wines from the Douro. Most people associate this wine region with Port Wine, however there is a long list of approachable and very enjoyable red wines from this area that feature the native Touriga Nacional grape varietal.
Team notes
Want to talk about underrated? Let’s talk about the St. Louis Blues.
Since 1980 the St. Louis Blues have only missed the playoffs 6 times (not every year can be a vintage). To put this into perspective, between 2005 – 2016, the Toronto Maple Leafs missed the playoffs 10 times.
Despite their consistency, the Stanley Cup had evaded the Blues…. that is until the 2018-19 season. Halfway through the season the Blues were in last place, but then something happened, the St. Louis Blues switched their post-game victory song to Laura Branigan’s hit “Gloria!”. The rest is history, the Blues dug their way out of last place and eventually won the Stanley Cup.
*note – the Blues changed their victory song in the 2020 season
