You might be thinking… “But Grapes, I drink beer with hockey…”
- I used to drink beer with hockey, but then I got older, and bloated, and gassy. I also realized that beer did not truly reflect the depth, structure, history, finesse, balance, and excitement of Hockey. Let’s put it this way, I drink beer when I watch Baseball and Football.
- The greatest player to every play hockey is Mario Lemieux. Have you ever seen Mario watching the Penguins from the ownership box? What’s in his glass? …. Bordeaux
- It has been a challenging 14 months. Hockey WineUp will give you something to look forward to as we wrap up the 2021 hockey season, enter the playoffs, and watch to see who wins the Stanley Cup. Starting now means you will get a head start in understanding wine and enjoying hockey while drinking wine.
As the Hockey WineUp team grows with members like you, we will provide you with more insight into the history of both wine and hockey, interviews with important people in wine and hockey, tasting notes from arenas around the league… who knows, maybe someday soon we will have a video up exploring Mario’s Bordeaux cellar.
More than anything, Hockey WineUp will be a place to connect with a group of like-minded individuals who understand that hockey is more than just fists and gulps.
A note about wine + hockey:
Wine is intimidating. Wine is nuanced. Wine is complicated and contemplative. Wine requires thinking about geography, taste, climate, smell, terroir, colours, and history. The similarities between wine and hockey may not be evident at first sight, but with a little bit of thought and purpose I think it will become clear to those who have an interest in it. I am not a wine expert, I am not a hockey expert, I am just a person who enjoys drinking wine and watching hockey – I hope you are too!
Cheers!
