Colorado Avalanche 2021 Wine Pairing, Benjamin Bridge Tidal Bay
Wine notes
Have you ever been eating oysters from Atlantic Canada and thought to yourself “This is what it’s like out east”?
Well, you may not like oysters, but you can have this experience thanks to Benjamin Bridge Tidal Bay!
What is Tidal Bay? Well it is an appellation of wine origin. Unlike the other wine growing regions in Canada that have designated appellations, Tidal Bay is comparable to Vintage Port Wine.
“To create a wine labelled as Tidal Bay, not only must the wineries adhere to a long list of production standards and craft their wines from a curated list of varietals, each wine must pass the judgement of a panel of experts to ensure the wine has the characteristic aromas and flavours of Nova Scotia’s terroir. The wines must be “fresh, crisp, dryish, still, white with a bright, ‘signature Nova Scotia’ aromatic component”, and the results have been phenomenal!”…. If you ask me, this sounds like Nathan MacKinnon
Team notes
Can you spell Colorado Avalanche without the letters “Nathan MacKinnon”? Like Sydney Crosby before him, this Nova Scotian is a superstar a generational player. This year the Avalanche are one of the Stanley Cup favourites, and Nathan MacKinnon is leading the way.
Like the Tidal Bay designation there seems to be specific vintages from Nova Scotia that are superior and in the NHL right now there are two designation years that stand out – 1987 (Sydney Crosby) and 1995 (Nathan MacKinnon)
*Benjamin Bridge Nova 7 is a wonderful dessert wine with a light effervescence. You can check out all the options from Benjamin Bridge on their website. Really, any option will be suitable for watching #29 on the Avalanche.
