Detroit Red Wings 2021 Wine Pairing, Château Clarke 2016
Wine notes
An Original Six team deserves a wine that has history. Château Clarke has roots that began in 1771 and was acquired by Edmond de Rothschild (same family as Château Lafite Rothschild) in 1973. The vineyard is in the Bordeaux region of Médoc. Château Clarke is a Merlot blend and described as possessing a deeply distinctive Médoc character.
2016 is known as a great year for Bordeaux wines. Take a night off from the Hockey WineUp Ritual for the Red Wings, rather do your best to grab 6 bottles of Château Clarke 2016 and promise yourself not to open the first one until the next time the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup.
Team notes
The last playoff appearance for the Detroit Red Wings was in 2016. The post-season with out the Wings just doesn’t seem right. Sort of like when Wendel Clark (or any other team that wasn’t the Leafs).
Not making the playoffs in 2021 will not be a concern for for the organization. The Red Wings are in a rebuilding phase, but it will only be a matter of time before playoff games are being played at Little Caesar’s Arena.
It might be some time before the Red Wings make a deep playoff run, but when it happens be sure to have a bottle of Château Clarke 2016 ready.
