New Jersey Devils 2021 Wine Pairing, Sangria with Castillo de Monseran Garnacha, Carinena DO
Wine notes
It’s brunch time and there’s a 1 pm New Jersey Devil’s game on. You look around and the only thing you have handy (without going to the store) is that bottle of red wine someone brought over but no one wanted to drink.
Lucky for you it’s brunch time and mixing up a batch of Sangria is sort of like making swamp water.
Dump that bottle into a pitcher, add 2-4 oz of Triple Sec, Slice an orange into thin slices, dump in some frozen mango, pineapple, and strawberries (you know, the bags of frozen fruit you have for those smoothies you keep saying you’ll make every morning), add 1/2 a cup of brandy and drizzle in some maple syrup – mix it up and let it sit while you finish those pancakes. Pour in a can or two of soda water just before you are ready to have brunch.
Oh ya – there’s a Devil’s game on too.
Team notes
The legend of a devil in the New Jersey swamplands was the inspiration for the team name. From 1988 to 2012 the Devils made the playoffs 21 times, went to the Stanley Cup Finals 5 times, and won the Stanley Cup 3 times! Unfortunately, for the Devils the last 9 years have been difficult, the team has only made it to the playoffs once and lost in the first round.
You may not intentionally tune into a Devil’s game, but if you do there is an upside – Nico Hischier, the 6’1” center selected 1st overall in the 2017 draft.
Line Change
This one is pretty flexible – feel free to use different left over red wine, white wine, liqueurs, sugar etc. Who knows, Sangria might be the reason you become a Devils fan.
