Welcome to the semifinals of the Hockey WineUp 2021 Bracket. Four wines remain, each team has accumulated a wine from Round 2 to add to their WineUp, and the Round 3 hockey WineUp pairings will be sure to add balance to your wine drinking and hockey watching experience.

Before looking at the semifinal Series Pairing, let’s recap the 2021 Hockey WineUp Team Pairings and the Round 2 Series Pairing that was acquired by each team for advancing.

Tampa Bay Lightning’s 2021 Team Pairing is Curvos Loureiro 2019. Their Hockey WineUp Line Change options are another two great Vinho Verde options: Gatao Vinho Verde and Quinta da Aveleda Vinho Verde. The Bolt’s acquired Vineyard 36 California Brut Rosé by beating the Carolina Hurricanes in Round 2.

The New York Islanders 2021 Team Pairing is Paumanok North Fork of Long Island Riesling 2017. The Islanders did not have Hockey WineUp Line Change options because there is no substitute to hard work. The Islanders acquired Batasiolo Bosc D’la Rei Moscato D’Asti DOCG by beating the Boston Bruins in Round 2.

The Vegas Golden Knights 2021 Team Pairing is Citra Trebbiano D’Abruzzo DOC. Their Hockey WineUp Line Change options are examples of grape varietals that are grown in non-traditional regions: Black Hills Estate Tempranillo 2018 and Cave Spring Estate Gewürztraminer 2017. The Knights acquired Gaspereau Vineyards Tidal Bay White 2019 by beating the Colorado Avalanche in Round 2.

The Montreal Canadiens 2021 Team Pairing is Domaine Marcel Lapierre Morgon 2019. Their Hockey WineUp Line Change options continue to celebrate the wonderful wines of Beaujolais: Domaine de Côtes Rémont 2018 and Vaucher Père & Fils Fleurie 2018. Les Canadiens acquired Benjamin Bridge Méthode Classique Reserve Brut Sparkling 2012 by beating the Winnipeg Jets in Round 2.

Series Pairings for Round 3

Tampa Bay v. New York: Gran Feudo Ediciòne Selecciòn especial 2017

Hockey in June means that the temperature and intensity of play will be heating up. The start of the semifinals means that teams will be looking to find the perfect balance to their lineup. The Bolts and Islanders both have solid WineUp pairings so far, but they are both lacking a Red wine that will work well with the June weather.

Folks, you may have heard of Rioja, but there is a neighbouring Spanish wine region that is superior – Navarra.

Gran Feudo (Est. 1872) is the leader of wine production in Navarra and produces wonderful reds that will pair nicely with this series, bbq, and the summer weather.

Gran Feudo Ediciòne Selecciòn especial 2017, is available at the SAQ here.

For readers in Ontario you can experience the essence of Navarra by picking up a bottle of Gran Feudo Reserva at the LCBO.

Vegas v. Montreal: Graham’s Late Bottled Vintage Port

200 years of tradition. That’s what you get from a bottle of Graham’s Late Bottled Vintage Port. Tradition is what the Montreal Canadiens are all about and what the Vegas Golden Knights have been establishing. Not sure how to go about enjoying port? Check out the Hockey WineUp Port Ritual here.

Graham’s Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) Port is ready to drink now. Once you open this LBV it will be good for about 3 weeks, so you probably won’t need more than 1 or 2 bottles for this series (depending on how many games it goes).

Remember to heighten your Port drinking experience by fixing a spread of Stilton Cheese, Walnuts, and Honey.

Graham’s Late Bottled Vintage Port is available at the SAQ here.
