Philadelphia Flyers 2022 Wine Pairing

Philadelphia Flyers 2022 Wine Pairing: Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Notes

Philadelphia is the birthplace of American Democracy. As a sports town, fans in Philadelphia are known to be in your face and tough. The historic character of the Philadelphia Flyers and their fans may not mesh well with the snooty snobbery of fine wine, so this year the 2022 Team Pairing, Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon, is a celebration of the American Dream, an approachable red wine from California that is bold and smooth, just like Captain Claude Giroux.

This is a great wine option for anyone new to California wines, or wine in general, as it pairs very well with most meat based dishes. When the Flyers are playing this year don’t worry about the Hockey WineUp Ritual, pour yourself a 6-9 oz glass instead of the recommend 3.5-4 oz and serve up some Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches.

Team notes

After missing the playoffs last year, the Philadelphia Flyers may be the Metropolitan Division dark horse for the 2021-22 season. A core group of veterans including Captain Claude Giroux will look to upset division rivals all year and take on a very traditional Philadelphia role, that of the underdog. The team’s grit and determination will position them to be a threat, but they will need to grind out wins against some very challenging division rivals.

Speaking of Grit, the Flyers mascot – Gritty – will be dominating social media once again this year. Gritty celebrated his third birthday recently and will continue to baffle and amaze on twitter. The legal drinking age for humans is 21 in Pennsylvania, however no one is really quite sure what Gritty is. Once we figure it out we’ll see if he’s up for a glass of wine.
