Buffalo Sabres 2022 Wine Pairing: Willm Réserve Riesling
Wine Notes
This year the Buffalo Sabres add to their Riesling collection with Willm Réserve Riesling. This is a dry Riesling from Alsace and if you recall from last year the Sabres were paired with a Dry Riesling from Finger Lakes, NY.
So here’s the Hockey WineUp recommendation for watching Sabre games this year: Pick up a bottle of Willm (or this year’s Riesling Line Change options) and compare them to the 2021 pairings. This will allow you to use the Buffalo Sabres games as a way to really understand the differences between the different Riesling regions of the world.
Willm Réserve Riesling is $19.95 at the LCBO, this is your gateway to the greatest Riesling region in the world, Alsace, but don’t forget to compare and learn about what you like while you watch the Buffalo Sabres this year!
Line Change
Here are some options if you can’t find a bottle of Willm Réserve Riesling:
- Schloss Schönborn Graf Von Schönborn Estate Riesling 2019: Buy it at the LCBO for $18.95
- Funf 5 Riesling Rhein: Buy it at the LCBO for $11.95
Team notes
Will the Buffalo Sabres be competitive this year? That is the question.
There are some very public disputes about the nature of Jack Eichel’s injury and the type of treatment it needs that is reminiscent of Kawhi Leonard. Regardless of the outcome of where Eichel ends up, the Sabres are rebuilding for the future – think Ottawa Senators, but with a plan. The Sabres will be an entertaining team to watch with a bunch of names you won’t really recognize (with the exception of Kyle Okposo and Jeff Skinner.
The best thing about the Sabres in the 2021/22 season? Having a reason to explore the wide range of the Nobel Grape, Riesling.
Cheers!
