Boston Bruins 2023 Wine Pairing

Boston Bruins 2023 Wine Pairing: J. Lohr Falcon’s Perch Pinot Noir 2020

Wine Notes

From the winery:

The 2020 vintage saw normal levels of preseason rainfall in Monterey County, and was at record levels of growing degree days at the completion of the Pinot Noir harvest in mid-October. Cool, foggy mornings and evenings persisted through spring. Daytime highs in the 80s through summer allowed for slow ripening and aromatic expression of the delicate Pinot Noir grape. Above average temperatures in late September and early October pushed ripening for the vintage. Harvesting of the Pinot Noir began the week of September 21 in the Santa Lucia Highlands, representing a third of the 2020 blend. The remaining two-thirds of the blend was harvested from the Arroyo Seco appellation the week of October 5th. The resulting wine is showing excellent fruit expression in the bottle.

Boston Bruins Facts

The Boston Bruins was Gord Downie’s (legendary frontman of the Tragically Hip) favourite hockey team.

Sidenote – I was at the Music Without Borders broadcast (you can see me in the video wearing a Rolling Stones 3/4 length baseball tee with aviators on). Prior to the performance (linked above) Gord Downie walked past me and I had the nerve to ask “Gonna play any Neil for us?”. Gord gave me what can only be described as a quintessential Gord Downie side eye and a smirk… Him and then band sit down a few minutes later and blast out “When You Dance I Can Really Love” – to this day I have no clue if he had planned to do a Neil cover or not, but anytime I watch that video or hear that song (which is rare) I tell myself Gordie did that one for me… Also, that Yellow Hat on the mic stand was a Boston Bruins hat.
