Marynissen Estate Winery, 2021 Chardonnay

There is a buzz about the Ottawa Senators this year. Off the ice, the team has a new ownership group and on it there is a young core of players that have just enough experience as a group to be a threat against any of the other 31 teams in the league.
It is easy to be excited about the future, but it is also important to reflect on the past. The Sens are unique because they are a modern era team (inaugural season 1992) with a history that reaches all the way back to 1883 and includes winning the Stanley Cup the first season it was exclusively awarded to the NHL Champion in the 1926-27 season.
Chardonnay is a grape varietal that is versatile and capable of growing in cold climates allowing it to thrive in the relatively young Ontario Wine Country areas. Although, Chardonnay is a standard for modern era wine making in North America and around the world, it has roots that stretch back to the middle ages when Monks started cultivating the grape in Burgundy.
Enjoying a glass of Marynissen Estates 2021 Chardonnay while watching the Ottawa Senators this year will provide an opportunity to be hopeful of the future, while reflecting on the past. Be sure to pay attention to Brady Tkatchuk and Tim Stützle while you swirl, sniff, taste, and repeat.

Wine Description
Expect a well balanced wine that captures the classic flavour profiles of the Niagara Peninsula. This is an oaked chardonnay so look out for vanilla and butterscotch aromas combined with hints of tropical fruit. This is a wine to let linger, so do the best you can to savour and enjoy the creamy texture and bright acidity on the palate – this definitely a chance for you to pour a 3-4.5 oz glass per period while you watch the game.
