Boston Bruins 2024 Team Pairing

Divergence Wines – SÉMILLON SAUVIGNON BLANC 2022

The 2024 season will be an interesting one for the Boston Bruins. After an incredible 2023 season that saw the team finish first overall and breaking the league season win and points records, key veterans Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci have retired. Although not in a full rebuild, the expectations on the Bruins are low.

New team Captain Brad Marchand will do what he can to ensure there is spice on the ice on a nightly basis and the re-acquisition of form Burins Cup winner Milan Lucic will give fans a familiar presence on the ice.

The Divergence Sémillon Sauvignon Blanc 2022 is a unique blend that is is ready to consume on now, but will improve and gain complexity with time in bottle until at least 2030. This will be a great wine to stock up on and take good tasting notes about so that you can compare the evolution of the wine in the bottle alongside the evolution of the Boston Bruins over the next 6 years.

Ultimately the Bruins this year will be enjoyable, but realistically they are a team looking ahead to the future with the hope of returning to their dominant form by 2030.

Wine Description

A classic blend of grape varieties but one not widely found in Niagara due to the difficulty in growing Sémillon here. It is both winter sensitive and thin skinned, so it thrives only on a few select sites. Sémillon from the Lizak Vineyard right next to Lake Ontario in Beamsville is blended with Sauvignon Blanc from a few kilometres East and slightly further from the lake from Hughes Vineyard.
The wines were both barrel fermented and aged for 10 months in primarily second fill and older French oak. The result is a captivating combination of fruit, texture, spice, and minerality backed by linear acidity that does not overpower but will give this wine exceptional longevity.
