The New Hockey Grapes

I’m Nick, but you can call me Grapes. I may not be the first Grapes in hockey, but I’m the first to suggest wine is the perfect pairing for the game and will map out the reasons why – including wine matches for specific teams, games, playoff series, and fun! Subscribing to Hockey WineUp will give you the knowledge you need to heighten your appreciation of wine and hockey… Let’s Go!

Our Mission

Hockey WineUp is dedicated to the development of your ability to enjoy and appreciate wine through watching hockey, OR, the ability to appreciate hockey through drinking wine!

Wine is the perfect pairing for the game. Hockey WineUp is a website for individuals who want to learn more about wine and have a passion for the game of hockey. Our community is dedicated to supporting each other and the development of the knowledge needed to heighten your appreciation of wine and hockey.

Our History

The history of wine is older than written records. Hockey WineUp has a lot to cover given our launch date of April 2021. My evolution to Grapes has been slow, but I know that there are others out there just like me.

I wouldn’t call myself a wine expert, and I wouldn’t call myself a hockey expert either. I’m just a person who enjoys doing a bit of research to come up with a wine pairing that will allow me to enjoy the game I’m planning to watch.

Wine can be intimidating. Wine is nuanced. Wine is complicated and contemplative. Wine requires thinking about geography, taste, climate, smell, terroir, colours, team work, and history.

As I have learned more about wine I started to see similarities between wine and hockey. By connecting wine to hockey I have developed a greater appreciation for wine. My knowledge is still in it’s infancy compared to the 5000+ years of wine history to draw on. With the 2021 playoffs around the corner I’m looking forward to raising many glasses as we use the game we love, hockey, to better appreciate wine.
