Washington Capitals 2021 Wine Pairing

Washington Capitals 2021 Wine Pairing, Cirelli Montepulciano Anfora 2018

Wine notes

Thomas Jefferson wasn’t just a founding father, he was (and still is) the most influential wine influencer in the United States. Jefferson used wine as a tool of nation building and did this by shifting away from British sensibilities like Sherry and Port. The American wine market has a major influence on the world of wine (both purchasing and growing) and it was Thomas Jefferson who influenced America’s preferences of grape varieties and regions.

Thomas Jefferson was a big fan of the Montepulciano grape from Italy. To celebrate Jefferson’s love or wine, the Washington Capitals 2021 Team Pairing is Cirelli Montepulciano Anfora 2018.

*This wine is made using amphora containers of terracotta, read more about it on the winery’s website here.

Team notes

Ted Leonsis, the owner of the Washington Capitals, has changed the way hockey teams are built and how technology is used in the game (big surprise, he was an Exec at AOL in the 90s). In 2004 the Capitals drafted Alexander Ovechkin, but they also made a decision to allow individual identity on the team. hockey experiencing some discomfort.

Ted Leonsis influenced hockey by allowing his star player to be an individual and show character that would go on to define the team the Capitals have become – can you imagine Les Canadiens doing this? Much like Jefferson, the Washington Capitals have been influential in redefining what is valued.

Remember this when you sip on your Montepulciano watching the Caps.
